Best of 2017: Editor's Pick
As the year comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to highlight a handful of our favorite articles published over the past year. We published tons of articles, featured new contributors, introduced international content and showcased some incredible products. But above of all, it was another year fueled with adventure and exploration. Although we’re proud of every piece of content published this year, the following five stand out above the rest.
BEST OF 2017
Chiapas is one of Mexico’s most rewarding treasures. The southernmost state bordering Guatemala, boasting a rich diversity of fiercely independent indigenous cultures, bustling colonial cities, ancient Mayan ruins, and a mix of wilderness ranging from chilly high-altitude pine forests to hot lowland rainforests.
Nicaragua is the largest Central American country; but unfortunately it has suffered years of political and civil unrest topped with hugely destructive earthquakes. Making it one of the least visited countries in the region. Opposite of its neighbor to the south, Costa Rica. Which has been a bustling hotspot and popular destination to visit amongst tourists. However, things are changing and Nicaragua is starting to come into its own.
Bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by the Hood Canal and on the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, is Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. It’s one of the few remaining places that is still surprisingly wild; and might just be unmatched when it comes to terrain and diversity.
“See America First!” is a slogan once coined by the railways and national park system when they teamed up in the early 20th century to inspire Americans to plan their next vacation closer to home. With the spirit of the original campaign in mind, photographer Jennifer Emerling spent three years driving over 15,000 miles to over two dozen national parks and monuments.
In a world full of ever-growing content, and consumption at an all time high; it’s refreshing to come across stories that speak to the soul. As was the case when we stumbled upon The Finite Project. This project is the brainchild of creative duo Zach and Allie Leon, who together have been on an everlasting adventure by van. They sought to create a space where their experiences could be shared, and their journey documented.
